BOB AND HIS WIFE KATHY

Biography of Bob Kellar

Bob Kellar joined the City of Santa Clarita as a first-term Council Member in April 2000, serving as Mayor in 2004 and again in 2008 when he was re-elected. He began his life of public service in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. This was followed by 25 years with the Los Angeles Police Department. Kellar retired from the LAPD in 1993, finishing up his career as Sergeant in Charge of Reserve Officer Training at the Police Academy. Throughout his more than 33 years as a Santa Clarita Valley resident, he has played an active role in the community, serving on several local non-profit boards and committees.

Kellar served as President of the Canyon Country Chamber of Commerce from 1993 through its eventual incorporation with the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce in 1995. In 1997 he was appointed to the Santa Clarita Planning Commission, where he served until his election to the City Council three years later. Kellar also served as President of the Santa Clarita Division of the Southland Regional Association of Realtors in 2000. From 2003 to 2007, Kellar served on the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Foundation. Today, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center Foundation.

Kellar is a 20-year member of the Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial Committee. He served as Past President in 1993 and 1994, and again in 2010 and 2011. Kellar feels strongly about supporting our veterans and our country. While serving as a Planning Commissioner, he stood strong to ensure that new development follows a sound and responsible approach to growth. As a Council Member, he has worked hard to prevent the proposed Cemex mining operation from going through and has traveled to Washington D.C. many times on the city's behalf regarding this matter. Additionally, Kellar has been a driving force in bringing stakeholders together to get the Whittaker Bermite site cleaned up and a responsible development plan put in place.

Kellar is particularly proud of having brought forward the creation of the city's Arts Commission that now serves our citizens in a more unified manner. Another accomplishment was Kellar's lead role in getting the words "In God We Trust" added to the city's logo in the Council Chamber.

Kellar is pleased with the work he has been able to accomplish on behalf of the citizens of Santa Clarita. His success has largely been the result of his ability to bring decision-makers together and put them on a common course. He believes it is vitally important to be accessible to citizens and listen to their ideas and concerns. He does all that he can to maintain the highest quality of life for all.
